How to Make an Organic Car Air Freshener
by Paul Posted on April 29th, 2009A refreshingly subtle scent makes a driving experience superb, which is why car owners invest on car fresheners. Upon opening one, the aroma fills the car, creating a pleasantly relaxing environment, in spite of early morning traffic. Instead of purchasing the pricey items sold on the auto shops, you can create your own organic car air freshener. Just gather naturally fragrant materials and store them in containers with small openings.
Witch’s Brew Car Freshener
Don’t let the name fool you. This freshener has a soothing scent, perfect for your car or your room. The mixture of sage, bay leaves and witch hazel creates a refreshing combo of aromas. Best of all, the concoction lasts for several months, which is an advantage for frequent travelers.
Materials Used:
- 1 cup liquid witch hazel
- 4 tbsp dried sage
- 40 bay leaves
- jar with lid
- mortar and pestle
- air freshener bottle
Procedure:
- Crush the bay leaves using a mortar and pestle.
- Place the leaves, sage, and witch hazel in a jar. Mix them thoroughly.
- Once done, cover the jar and let the mixture settle for three days.
- Open the jar then stir the mixture.
- Remove the leaves.
- Transfer a portion of the mixture to an air freshener or a perfume bottle. Store the remaining potion in the jar at room temperature.
- Set the air freshener bottle in your car. Spray a few times before driving.
If you don’t have an air freshener bottle, you can store the mixture in a stylish canister or jar with a lid. Punch small holes on the lid so the scent spreads in your car’s interior instantly.
Lavender and Mint Car Freshener
Lavender and mint leaves both emit refreshing scents. Combine their aromas and you’ll get something worthy for long drives and stressful travels to the office. Just gather both leaves and place them in an open container then you’ll have an instant car freshener.
Materials Used:
- lavender leaves
- mint leaves
- air freshener bottle or container with holes on the lid
Procedure:
- Gather lavender and mint leaves.
- Place them in an air freshener bottle or any container with small holes on the lid.
- Set the container near the car’s air conditioner, so the scent quickly spreads around the interior.
- Just replace the leaves when the scent is starting to fade.
The scent is a bit subtle as compared to the previous car freshener. If you want to enhance the aroma, you can crush the leaves using a mortar and pestle then store them in an air freshener bottle. The scent will be significantly stronger.
Fragrant Herbs and Spices Make Good Car Fresheners
Organic car air fresheners are just as fragrant as their commercially-sold counterparts, only they’re practically costless and does not pose any threat to the environment. If you are quite knowledgeable about the herbs and spices, you can create even more fragrant creations than the ones mentioned in this article. Feel free to post your own concoctions in the comments section. If you enjoy reading this article, you’ll surely be interested in learning how to garden organically.
