How To Make A Soap
Soap is a surfactant used for ridding the body of dirt and germs. It, being a perennial bath item, is an everyday need. Many people splurge weekly just to get a hold of pricey organic soaps, which are known for cleansing and moisturizing the skin. Instead of spending a fortune on these things, why not make your own?
A Simple Project
Anyone can make soap. You simply need to heat, mix and dry the soap until it is formed. Its ingredients are easy to find. A visit to the grocery and a cosmetics store should take care of everything. As for the procedure, just have enough patience and a keen eye on details to follow the process step-by-step. You’ll end up with a decent finished product that you can shape to any form you choose, depending on your set of soap molds.
Materials Used:
- 1 1/2 cups lard
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup glycerin
- lavender oil or any essential oil for fragrance
- mixing bowl
- blender
- saucepan
- soap molds
Procedure:
- Set the oven to low heat then place a saucepan above the burner.
- Place the lard in the pan. Wait for it to melt.
- Add the coconut oil then mix until both ingredients have blended.
- Switch off your oven in the meantime to let the mixture cool.
- Put the oatmeal in the blender. Grind the grains until they become slightly powdery.
- Set the oven again at low heat.
- Add the glycerin to the mixture. Stir thoroughly.
- Continue stirring, as you add lavender oil (or your choice of essential oil) and the ground oatmeal slowly.
- When the mixture thickens, pour it in the soap molds.
- Let the soap air dry for two to three days before using.
In the absence of coconut oil, you can use olive oil. Both of them are excellent skin softeners and moisturizers. However, when using olive oil, you may need to add lye for added germ-killing power (For other uses of olive oil, read 13 Practical uses for olive oil). Coconut oil is known to repulse a number of bacteria strains, which makes it a popular ingredient for organic soaps.
Same Soap, Different Ingredients
Once you get accustomed to creating this type of soap, you can start making your own versions of organic soap. Many other ingredients can be used, given their moisturizing and germicidal properties. Just apply the same logic used in this project and you’ll be fine. For more information regarding this article, read how to create soap.
