Easter Story Cookies For Kids

Easter isn’t just about feasts and fun activities. Behind this holiday is a touching story of faith. If your kids don’t know about Easter, one good way to teach them is by making Easter Story cookies with them. Here’s how.

Ingredients:

  • One cup of whole pecans
  • Three egg whites
  • One teaspoon of vinegar
  • One cup of sugar
  • A pinch of salt

Additional Materials:

  • Wooden spoon
  • Tape
  • Zipper bag
  • Mixing bowl
  • Bible

Procedure:

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Get the pecans and put them in a zipper bag. Give the wooden spoon to the children and let them beat the pecans with it, breaking them in small pieces. Tell them that after Jesus was taken by Roman soldiers, they beat him (John 19: 1-3).
  3. Allow the kids to smell the vinegar. Then, put a teaspoon in a mixing bowl. Explain to them that when Jesus was nailed to the cross, he was thirsty, and was given vinegar to drink (john 19:28-30).
  4. The egg whites represent life. Add them to the bowl, while saying that Jesus died in order for us to live (John 10:10-11).
  5. Put a small amount of salt into every child’s hand. Let them taste a bit of it, then put the rest into the bowl. Tell them the salt represents the salty tears cried by Jesus’ followers, an dhow bitter man’s own sin is (Luke 23:27).
  6. Add the sugar. Explain to your kids that the sweetest part of the whole story is that Jesus sacrificed himself because he loves us. He wants to belong to him and know him (John 3:16 and Psalms 34.8).
  7. Using a mixer, beat the ingredients for 12 to 15 minutes on high speed. Keep doing this until stiff peaks form. Say that the white color represents the purity of sinners who have been cleansed by Jesus, and how God sees them.
  8. Fold the broken nuts into the mixture.
  9. Using the wooden spoon, drop the cookie mixture onto a wax paper covered cookie sheet. Every mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus laid (Matthew 27:57-60).
  10. Place the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door, then turn off the oven. Give the kids a piece of tape each, and allow them to place it on the door, saying that Jesus’ tomb was sealed (Matthew 27:65-66).
  11. Tell the kids they’ll have to go to bed already. If they feel sad, tell them not to worry; after all, Jesus came back to life (john 16:20 and 22).
  12. On next morning, Easter day, open the oven and give the cookies to everyone. They’ll see the cracked surface and when they bite in the cookies, they’ll see the cookies are hollow, just like Jesus’ tomb (Mathew 28:1-9)!

A plateful of yummy, sweet cookies is great, especially for a day like Easter. Make your Easter as festive as you can, by serving these delectable treats. It’s a great way to celebrate this fabulous holiday.
