Making a decent home video isn’t hard. With the right equipments and resource, you can convert a low homemade video into something that you can proudly share to the world.

Materials Needed

  • A digital camera
  • Computer
  • Pinnacle Studio software

Step by Step Procedure

Step 1

Get your digital camera. Make sure it has battery. To insert the battery, put it according to the arrow on the battery. Slide in, and then down. You’ll know it’s correct when you hear a snapping sound.

step 1-1 step 1-1

Step 2

Insert the tape. Depending on the camera, the tape holder can either be on the top or the bottom; you’ll just have to check it out. Push the button to open it up. It will open up automatically; don’t force it. Once it’s open, take the tape and slide it in. The white sprocket should be facing you. Close it by pressing slightly where it says “Push”.

step 2-1 step 2-2 step 2-3 step 2-4

Step 3

Start filming. Follow the conventional filming basics: lighting, sound, dynamics.

Step 4

Edit your film using an editing softare, in this case, Pinnacle Studio. Open up the software and then click on the “Capture” Tab.

step 4-1

Step 5

Control the tape inside the camera using the camera onscreen. You can check how much free space is in your computer by the icon on the right of the camera.

step 5-1 step 5-2

Step 6

Click the “Start Capture” button to begin importing your video.

step 6-1

Step 7

Once you’ve finished capturing your video, hit the “Edit” tab located just beside the “Capture” tab. To import your videos to the storyboard, click on the Camera icon located on the left. It will open any video you just captured.

step 7-1 step 7-2

Step 8

Drag each clip into the storyboard–the one highlighted in green. If the scene is too long, you can cut the scene by clicking on the razorblade icon. To arrange the clips, just click and drag to where you want a particular clip to be.

step 8-1 step 8-2

Step 9

Add or edit titles to your video by clicking the T tab to the left, below the Camera icon. Click the text you like best and then drag it to your storyboard, on the T slot that’s highlighted in yellow. Put it under the scene you want the text on. To edit the text, double-click it and highlight the text editor.

step 9-1 step 9-2 step 9-3

Step 10

Once you’re done, hit the “Okay” button.

step 10-1

Step 11

For transitions, hit the Transition tab on the left, just under the Camera tab. Choose the transition you want and add it in-between any video clips.

step 11-1

Step 12

For sound effects, click on the Speaker tab. Click on the folders that apply to your movie. Here you will find various sound effects you can choose. Just drag the effect you want to the clip or music track, highlighted in blue. To move the sound clip, click on the camera tab by the toolbox. A new window should pop up; click on the last tab that looks like a plug. There you can add various effects to your film.

step 12-1 step 12-2 step 12-3 step 12-4

Step 13

Once you’re done, click on the “Make Movie” next to the “Edit” tab. Convert your movie to MPEG and click “Create MPEG File”. Save it to an easily accessible folder.

Editing a homemade movie is easy with the right tools. With them, you can produce quality videos that, while not exactly professional, will be good enough to show off to the world.
