A plain is wall is just like an empty canvas. You may have a thousand and one designs but at the end of the day, it is still just a blank wall. Try covering your wall with wallpaper. You will have a room that is tailor-made for your style and your interests.

Wallpaper Material

Wallpaper is made from several types of materials, all of which are suitable for a certain set of home styles.

  • embossed textured paper
  • fabric
  • flock-patterned paper or vinyl
  • vinyl
  • foil
  • grass cloth

Normally, embossed textured wallpaper go along with Mediterranean-styled rooms, while grass cloth is the choice for wooden country homes. Although, you should also consider your room’s general theme and the items found in your room before picking the material for wallpaper.

Wallpaper Designs

Wallpaper designs are pretty broad. In fact, you can incorporate any pattern, image or design into your wallpaper. Many wallpaper are plain or have classic prints. If you want to be more creative with the design, you can paint your own pattern, print a repeating image or even manipulate photos to form patterns. Remember, you have the freedom to style the wallpaper in any which way you want, as long as it blends with your room.

Printing Options

Feel the texture of regular wallpaper and you will notice that the printing method used is different from the output generated by your computer printer. Given that wallpaper is large enough to cover the walls in your room, you need to use a large-scale printing technique. Some of the prevalent printing methods are:

  • silkscreen
  • gravure printing
  • surface printing
  • rotary printing

Of course, if you are adept at painting, you can always turn the wallpaper into your painting canvas.

Making Wallpaper

Wallpaper is not hard to create. The only problems that you will probably encounter are picking a design and attaching the wallpaper. The rest of the procedures are pretty straightforward. They just seem confusing at first.

Materials Used:

  • wallpaper material
  • measuring tape
  • wallpaper adhesive
  • paintbrush
  • scissors/cutter
  • painting materials (optional)
  • computer (optional)
  • printer(optional)
  • printing press (optional)

Procedure:

  1. Examine the pattern of your room and think of several good wallpaper designs. If you are having a hard time coming up with a good pattern, you can check the Internet for references. Many websites showcase various patterns for wallpapers. You can even go to advertising websites or the sites of web designers if you want an image-based wallpaper.
  2. When you have settled on a design, select the wallpaper material that goes well with your chosen design.
  3. Measure the dimensions of your room using a measuring tape.
  4. Go to a furniture or wallpaper store and purchase your chosen material.
  5. Cut the material according to your room’s dimensions.
  6. Go to a printing press and have the design printed on the wallpaper material. If you are the artistic type, you can paint the design yourself.
  7. Apply wallpaper adhesive on the blank side of your wallpaper using a paintbrush. Make sure that the adhesive layer is even.
  8. Affix your wallpaper on the wall carefully. See to it that the attached portions are even, otherwise, the wallpaper will not look good. Leave no gaps in between separate sheets so that the design flows continuously on the wall.

After attaching the wallpaper, do not touch it and keep your room’s furnishings at a safe distance. A slight nudge may misalign it, making the wallpaper look unattractive. Just arrange your furniture when the wallpaper adhesive dries.

The wallpaper is the chief proponent of a room’s aesthetics. Its patterns gracefully blend with all the gadgets and furnishings, making your room look grand. You’ll definitely feel at home with such a well-styled room.
