How To Make Your Own Skirt
Being a fashion icon is one of your ultimate aspirations. You want people to emulate your fashion statements whenever you pay a visit to the hippest night clubs. Young adults will make you their role model. People your age will be completely envious of your stature. Of course, before any of those things happen, you have to start somewhere. That somewhere probably comes in the form of a woman’s skirt. The skirt may be a rather simple garment, but its stylishness is almost unrivaled. Make one and get a foothold on your fashionista dreams.
Skirts are popular items nowadays. They are made for women of all ages. They also come in a lot of styles and designs. Just like any fashionable garment, skirts are quite expensive, especially if you buy the most fashionable ones. The best designs often come with unfavorable price tags, which can frustrate people with average budgets. Good thing that the materials used to make skirts are quite cheap. You can make a good skirt for a fraction of the price of a designer skirt with the almost the same style and quality.
A skirt is pretty simple to make. You just need to stitch together the components and sew patterns on the skirt’s surface. Your new skirt will be ready before you know it.
Materials Used:
- fabric (2 x 2 meters)
- elastic band (the size of your waistline)
- needle
- thread
- tape measure
- scissors
- sewing machine (optional)
The Planning Stage
Before you shop for the materials, you should first determine the fabric to be used, the designs and the length of your skirt. You can look at several fashion magazines and the fashion websites for ideas. Generally, long skirts are used as formal wear, mini skirts are for clubbing and knee-length skirts are part of the casual wardrobe. The type of fabric used and the skirt designs usually enhance the effect influenced by the skirt’s length. When you have made your decision, sketch your skirt on a piece of paper (the skirt plan), including the dimensions and the materials needed to create the skirt.
The Shopping Stage
Just like a real fashion designer, you will need to carefully check all the materials offered by a fabric store. Run through all the items offered since you can get additional ideas for your skirt from the various fabric patterns available. Once you have chosen the fabric, grab an elastic clothing band then head to a sewing store. Get all the necessary sewing materials that cannot be found in your personal sewing kit. You can also grab beads and sequins along the way if you plan to make a gypsy skirt.
The Sewing Stage
Cut your fabric in accordance to your skirt plan. Make sure that the fabric is about two inches longer than what you have designed. Once done, place the elastic band on the topmost portion of your fabric. Roll the fabric to cover the elastic band then sew the ends of the band together. Sew the ends of the fabric to close your skirt.
To create a stylish hemline, place a one centimeter fold on the lowest portion of your skirt then close the fold with the use of your sewing equipment. If you have a sewing machine, you can do this procedure in a couple of minutes. Once done, you can stitch patterns on your skirt’s surface or affix small items like beads or buttons. You can also add slits if you plan to make your skirt look sexy.
Now, you have a skirt that can match your stylishness inch-for-inch. Make a grand entrance at any hip club and shake your tail feather. Whatever happens, you will always look graceful with your new skirt.
