How To Make A Picket Fence
by howtomakestuff Posted on April 8th, 2008Religious and secular laws state that an individual should always be good to his neighbor. Normally, that law is pretty easy to follow, but if your next door neighbors act like drunken baboons, you do not have a choice but to install a picket fence around your property. The fence will keep your nosy and nasty neighbors away from your home. Gone are the days when you complained about your drunken neighbor who attempted to pick a fight with members of your household. Never will you worry about neighborhood fiends who casually steal your expensive gardening equipment. Install a picket fence now and keep your home safe.
A fence is a wooden enclosure built to establish the boundaries of a property and to hinder the entrance of outsiders. Ideally, the fence should be pretty sturdy so people cannot simply topple it down or barrel their way through it. A fence is also styled to look like a fashion accessory as the fence’s patterns often compliment the general theme of a house. If you plan to install a picket fence for your home, select a model that looks good and can keep the bad guys out.
The installation process shouldn’t be too hard if you follow the instructions carefully. All you need to do is assemble your wood blocks to create your fence then stick the structure around your property. The best part is that most of the tools needed are readily found in your toolbox. If you lack a few of the necessary tools, you can simply borrow them from your friends. Be sure to know the measurement of your property’s area before you proceed with the installation process of your picket fence.
Materials Used:
- fencing material (depends on the area of your property)
- hammer
- nails
- saw
- mechanical drill
- a bag of screws
- chalk
- mallet
The first step of this do-it-yourself project is to get the right fencing material and patterns for your home. Go to a reputable lumber store and look at dozens of picket fence patterns and designs. Think about the overall design of your home before you make a decision. You would not want your picket fence to look like an eyesore. Once you select a pattern, you can get the unassembled fence from the dealer and head home to assemble your picket fence.
When you are ready to assemble your fence, line the wooden boards of your fence side by side. Drill holes in the upper-middle and lower-middle portions of each wooden board to create connection points for your fence connectors. Once done, screw the fence connectors to each wooden peg. If you think the connection between the connectors and the boards is not strong enough, you can hammer a few nails to totally reinforce the connection. Once completed, you can paint your picket fence if it did not come already painted.
Your next mission is to stick the picket fence around the area of your property. Mark the area that will be occupied by the picket fence to make things easy for you. When you are finished, stick your picket fence in accordance to the marked area. You can further reinforce the connection between your fence and the ground by hammering down each wooden board with the use of a mallet.
At this point, your picket fence is ready. You can finally sit pretty and watch your favorite shows on the boob tube even if you have menaces and marauders for neighbors. Consider yourself protected behind bars with your picket fence.
* Aside from the materials mentioned above, you might find yourself needing to use fence pliers for this task. Using it the right way is very important, though. Here are tips on how to use fence pliers properly.
