How To Make A Garden Fountain
by howtomakestuff Posted on March 26th, 2008Not many decorative ornaments can beautify a garden like a garden fountain. Its intricate patterns remind you of white castles found in fairy tales. The beautiful water formation looks like a sprite spreading pixie dust to curious onlookers. Remarkably, this enchanting structure is made by human hands. You can actually make one yourself if you have all the proper materials and a handful of creativity.
A garden fountain is made of rocks, cement and a water-shooting apparatus. It can be a bit challenging to build, but making your own garden fountain can save you a lot of cash. Garden fountains are very pricey if you but them from home accessory stores and shopping centers. You have to pay for the fountain itself, the materials used, and installation and maintenance fees if you purchase a garden fountain.
It just so happens that the price of a fountain’s components is much lower if you buy them separately. You also won’t have to deal with the unusually high labor and installation fees if you make the garden fountain yourself. Perhaps, the only added expense is when you hire a plumber to direct your home’s water supply to your fountain, which is not too expensive.
Materials Used:
- water pump
- pump hose
- shovel
- patterned rocks
- cement
- paper
- pencil
The very first step to build your garden fountain is to route the water supply to your selected location. Choose a visible point in your garden or lawn for your garden fountain. Get your shovel and dig a two foot hole on your chosen location. You can hire a plumber to create a piping system that will direct the water supply to your fountain. Now, you can install the water pump so that it can pump water into your fountain. If you have trouble installing the water pump, you can always seek the advice of your plumber so that he or she can re-align the piping.
At this point, you can start building your garden fountain. Outline the appearance and dimensions of your garden fountain on a piece of paper that will act as a guideline throughout the project. Now, arrange the stones according to your sketch then cement them together.
When the cement dries, you can install a few spotlights somewhere near your new garden fountain to make it even more beautiful at night. You can finally call your garden majestic with such a beautiful structure standing within the area.
