How To Make A Turtle Costume
Posted on March 17th, 2008You are working in busy New York City. Living your life in the fast lane, you seem to have formed a biological schedule that you unconsciously follow everyday. Your friends have been protesting since you are always too busy to meet any of them. Even your boss and your peers frequently remind you that you should not work so much.
Now, the Halloween party is fast approaching and you want to give all your friends and co-workers a pleasant surprise. As a reward to your friends, you are going to wear a costume that appears to be the complete irony of how you take your everyday life. You will wear a turtle costume.
The turtle costume should properly depict the distinguishable characteristics of a real turtle. A turtle costume comes complete with green skin, a round face and a shell. You can even add a personal touch to your costume so that everyone can relate it to your actual personality. Silly as you may look, you will have a good share of the spotlight at any Halloween party if you make your turtle costume perfectly.
Materials Used:
- green leotard
- green body paint
- green paint
- beige paint
- turtle mask
- thermal coat (3 sizes larger)
- cotton stuffing
You can purchase a good-looking turtle mask that covers your entire head at any toy store. When you get home, wear a dark green leotard for the green turtle skin. Apply green body paint on your skin that isn’t covered by the leotard and your turtle mask.
As you wait for the paint to dry, you can sketch and paint the patterns of a normal turtle shell on your oversized thermal coat. Paint the back of your coat dark green and the front beige to conform to the colors of a turtle shell. When the body paint and the paint on your coat settles and dries, wear the thermal coat and stuff it with cotton. Keep stuffing cotton beneath your coat until it bulges like a true turtle shell.
At this point, you have the freedom to add personal touches to your turtle costume. You could stick a cartoon bubble on the head of your turtle using Styrofoam and wire. You could bring a briefcase to make a funny mockery of lazy office workers. The ball is now in your court when it comes to creatively making your turtle costume relatable to you and your peers.
The turtle costume is a symbol of longing and labor with generous servings of sloth. You can wear it for enjoyment. You can wear it as a personal statement. For whatever reason, you’ll be slashing like a Ninja Turtle and scooting like a one-legged man when you wear a turtle costume.
