This Halloween, you vow to scare the heck out of your friends. No more old sheets or ridiculous masks for you, and instead you’re going to go for some facial makeup effect. You can easily troop to your arts and crafts store to buy face paint, but the problem is it can be expensive. There are also very little types of colors to choose from. Don’t worry, because you can make your own Halloween face paint. You only need a few items from around the house.

Homemade Halloween Makeup Foundation

If you’re planning to dress up as a zombie or a vampire, you’ll need to make your skin look clammy and cold. You need a very pale foundation to cover your face first. Here’s an easy recipe you can try.

What You’ll Need:

  • Two teaspoons of white flour
  • 10 teaspoons of cornstarch
  • Five teaspoons of vegetable shortening
  • 1/8 teaspoon of food coloring (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon glycerin (optional)
  • Makeup sponge
  • Small brushes
  • Small bowl

Procedure:

  1. Get a small bowl and put in the flour and cornstarch. Mix them together.
  2. Add the vegetable shortening, one teaspoon at a time. Continue stirring until it becomes well-combined.
  3. If you need just a pale foundation, you can proceed to placing this mixture on your face. If you need it to have a certain color, though (like green, if you’re going as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle), add in some food coloring. Mix it well.
  4. Add in the glycerin, until the mixture’s well combined.
  5. When you’re done, use a makeup sponge (or even your fingers) to apply the foundation all over your face. Small brushes can be used for detailed designs.

Fake Bruises Makeup

You want to look like a battered victim from a massacred movie, so you need to have lots of bruises and a black eye (or two). Here’s an easy makeup mix you can try.

What You’ll Need:

  • Smoke gray or charcoal powder eyeshadow
  • Deep blue eyeshadow
  • Olive green eyeshadow
  • Makeup brush

Procedure:

  1. Wet your makeup brush, then blot some deep blue powder eyeshadow on it. Apply it to the area where you want the bruise to appear.
  2. Blot some of the charcoal or smoke gray hue then add to your face.
  3. Add the green eyeshadow at the edges to complete.
  4. Smudge the bruise.

Easy Halloween Face Paint Mix

If you want to draw elaborate designs on your face and not just look scary, your best bet would be to mix up a batch of regular homemade face paint. This is flexible enough to be used for various kinds of costumes.

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 1/2 teaspoons of cold cream
  • five teaspoons of cornstarch
  • 4 1/2 teaspoon of water
  • Four different types of food coloring
  • Muffin holder (one that you don’t use anymore)
  • Bowl

Procedure:

  1. Put the cold cream, cornstarch and water in a bowl, making sure they’re mixed properly.
  2. Get the muffin tin and divide the mix into five separate chambers. If you need more than this amount, you can increase the amount of the ingredients you used.
  3. Add the food coloring, one color for each of the divisions. Mix them well.
  4. Apply this to your face using your fingers or with a brush.

Face Paint To Make Scabs And Warts

A face oozing with scabs and warts is definitely fit for Halloween. Here’s an easy way to make this.

What You’ll Need:

  • An ounce of gelatin (plain or flavored)
  • Four tablespoons of corn syrup
  • Food coloring
  • Boiling water
  • Ceramic plate
  • Sugar or rock salt

Procedure:

  1. Mix the gelatin and boiling water in a bowl. Let it set for a few minutes.
  2. To make moles or blisters, drip the gelatin on a ceramic plate before it completely sets. This will cause it to create small round shapes.
  3. Fix the gelatin to your face using the corn syrup as adhesive.
  4. For a grainy and rough texture, you can add rock salt or sugar to the gelatin as it’s nearly setting.

You don’t need to spend big buck to make an impressive costume this Halloween. If you know how to use makeup properly, and if you’re creative enough, you can create your own Halloween face paint. Just try these easy techniques. To add a more creepy effect, you can also make fake blood.
